Work starts on repairs to and resurfacing of sections of the A385 Totnes to Paignton road on Monday, 26th January.
The improvements, expected to take seven weeks, involve repairs to sections of the foundations and resurfacing of a 2.5km or 1.5 mile stretch of the road.
The main works will be from the A381/A385 roundabout to just above the crossing on Bridgetown Hill, from Blackpost Cross to the nursery at Longcombe Cross plus a 200m length adjacent to the boundary with Paignton. The contractor is Aggregate Industries.
To avoid traffic congestion on this very busy road, the work between the A381/A385 roundabout and Bridgetown Hill will be carried out between 9.30am and 3.30pm and between Blackpost Cross and the Paignton boundary overnight between 7pm and 7am.
The A381/A385 roundabout will be resurfaced on a Sunday night. The road will be closed and traffic diverted via Coronation Road and Bridgetown. Newton Abbot traffic will follow this diversion then continue via the A385 and A380 to Newton Abbot or vice versa.
To deter lorries using the diversion, signs will be placed on the A38 at Marley Head and Dart Bridge advising drivers travelling to Paignton to follow the A38 to Drum Bridges and Newton Abbot. A similar sign will also be placed at Drum Bridges.
Letters giving details of the works are being sent to all residents living nearby.
