Instant access to a world of information comes to people living in Ipplepen, Topsham and Stokenham this week aboard a state-of-the-art vehicle specially-commissioned by Devon County Council.
Equipped with the latest technology, the vehicle will give people in rural communities the chance to use the internet and experience the benefits of going on line. They can also find out more about County Council services and how to access them.
The Devon In Touch Roadshow will be at: The Wellington Inn, Ipplepen on Tuesday, January 20 Topsham Quay on Wednesday, January 21 Stokenham Parish Hall on Thursday, January 22
The roadshow will visit the venues from 11am to 4pm.
The Devon In Touch Roadshow is a partnership between Devon County Council, the BBC and Devon Fire and Rescue.
The vehicle is equipped with six computers for free use by the public and facilities to enable BBC Radio Devon reporters and presenters to broadcast live from villages where the vehicle calls. They will invite people visiting the roadshow to share their stories and experiences with the rest of the county.
The Devon In Touch Roadshow already has bookings all over Devon. The vehcile is equipped with full internet access, giving the public a chance to have free computer taster sessions. On board are friendly staff who will also help people access information about services run by the County Council and other agencies.
Using specially dedicated money made available by the government for local authorities, Devon In Touch is aimed at connecting rural communities by encouraging people who don't currently use the internet to give it a try and experience the benefits of going online. It will also promote County Council services and important public information initiatives such as CAREdirect and safety in the home.
