HELSTON maintained their bid for promotion from Cornwall division two with another convincing performance against Callington at the King George V playing fields on Saturday.
Early pressure from the Helston forwards earned a penalty and a try in the opening quarter of the game. Helston forwards recycled rucked ball to catch Callington off side for the penalty which was kicked by Kevin Mitchell and continued to play a tight game.
Prop Ten Heaton scored a try from a maul on the Callington line, but the visitors hit back to reduce the deficit when they replied with a penalty.
However a second try for Helston scored by winger Colin Taylor converted by Kevin Mitchell put Helston in the driving seat by half time with a lead of 15 points to three.
A penalty was kicked by Kevin Mitchell to extend the home side's lead and a catch and drive from a Helston lineout enabled second row Richard Bassett to score Helston's third try.
Colin Taylor weighed in with his second try of the game which was converted by Kevin Mitchell to giving Helston an emphatic 30-3 victory..

Illogan Park 2nd XV 0pts
Helston 2nd XV played entertaining open rugby against Illogan to win by a runaway 39-0 margin.
A try for captain Richard Boucher opened the scoring and two more tries and a conversion saw Helston to a healthy 17 points to nil lead at half time.
Four more tries and a conversion in the second half stretched Helston's winning margin to 39 points to nil.
There were two tries for Paul Adams, two for Tah, and tries for Chris Stevens, Mark Daniels and Richard Boucher. The game was refereed by Bob Lees
The Helston Minis and juniors played Truro Minis and juniors on Sunday in games played for age groups up to under 14.
Truro won most of the games, but they were all well supported and contested.
