Work on the £6 million pumping station in Torbay began this week with the delivery of massive concrete beams.
Around 24 beans, each 18 metres long and weighing 17 tonnes, were delivered individually to the station in Ilsham Valley to make its roof.
The pumping station is part of the £100 million Clean Sweep programme by South West Water to remove sewage form the Torbay area.
The work means that the Meadfoot Sea Road at Ilsham will be closed for ten weeks.
When commissioned in the spring the station will divert five million gallons of sewage a day to the £60 million Brokenbury waste water plant for treatment.
