A NEW course is being run in West Cornwall to train referees for local football. This course will be held at Cornwall College, Pool, Redruth, starting on Tuesday, February 3.
The first stage of the course will last for four weeks, and after successful completion of a multiple choice test, the candidate will gain a certificate showing a basic understanding of the laws of the game.
Course members can then proceed, if they wish, to a further and more involved course which will include a written and oral exam, plus three assessed games, and will enable them to referee in local football.
Cornwall County FA is keen to increase the number of referees in local football and to ensure that games are provided with a qualified and fully trained referee. A warm welcome is extended, however, to anyone who wishes to simply gain a better understanding of the laws of football, in addition to those who are ambitious to take up this fulfilling and important hobby.
The second stage of the course will give practical guidance in match refereeing.
The course director is David Ager, who is a licensed referee instructor with the Football Association.
