ALTERNATIONS are to begin on Monday to a controversial road scheme in Taunton which has caused months of frustration to communters.
The work will restore two lanes at the Priory Bridge Road junction with Station Road and improvements to traffic islands in a bid to cut tailbacks.
The ruling Conservatives on Taunton Deane Council believe the changes will get traffic moving at pre-2002 levels when the LibDems installed the existing layout to try to force commuters on to public transport.
The work, which follows a promise by the Tories at last summer's elections to improve traffic flow through the junction, is scheduled to last four weeks.
