THE officers of Redruth Sea Angling Association reported a successful year at its AGM with increased membership and some very good fish coming to the scales.

One highlight was the Redruth SAA team winning the Cornish Federation of Sea Anglers four-a-side championship.

Martyn Evans came runner up in the CFSA Junior Shore Festival 11-to-16 age group and Josh Mills had the most species prize in the 11 years age group.

One club record was broken, that of the shore-caught Spanish mackerel, and was captured by club treasurer Ade Chirgwin.

The Spanish mackerel is normally a warm water fish and is increasingly being caught off Cornish coasts. Perhaps anglers are finding tangible indicators of global warming.

Other notable shore caught fish were: Tony Stafford, pollack, 6lbs 9ozs 0dms; Tim Evans, bull huss, 12lbs 11ozs 0dms; Mark Clancy, bass, 10lbs 3ozs 2dms; Paul Watson, dab, 1lb 5ozs 9dms.

Fish weighed in during December 2003, according to the recorder's report, were Tim Evans, dab, 0lbs 15ozs 0dms; Tony Stafford, pollack, 4lbs 5ozs 6dms; Tony Stafford, pollack, 6lbs 9ozs 0dms.

The Christmas competition winners were - 1, Colin Mills, mackerel, 1lbs 3ozs 2dms; 2, Gareth Rosevear, J mackerel, 1lbs 2ozs 4dms; 3, John Munday, lsd 2lbs 1oz 0dms; 4, Gareth Rosevear, J mackerel, 0lbs 14ozs 0dms.

The unusual feature of the annual Christmas competition was that mackerel, normally a summer fish, carried off most of the prizes. Also junior member Gareth Rosevear beat most of the senior members and carried off two prizes of Christmas goodies.

Officer elected were: President John Munday; chairman, Brian Collick; vice-chairman, Tim Evans; secretary, Treve Opie; treasurer, Ade Chirgwin; recorder, Tim Evans; cup custodian, Paul Watson; competition Stewards, Mark Kaczmarek and Mike Osman; committee executive officers plus Daniel Sampson, Colin Mills, Steve Thomas, Ian Chirgwin.
