As part of the police force's Christmas anti drink-driving campaign, which ran from December 18 to January 2, officers breathalysed 149 drivers who were involved in accidents in Cornwall. Countywide they arrested ten people for failing or refusing to take breath tests.
Statistics just released show that Devon and Cornwall Police arrested 27 per cent fewer people over the festive period this year than last, despite breathalysing 42 per cent more drivers.
The statistics also showed that there were 45 car accidents in which people were hurt in Cornwall over the Christmas period.
In Falmouth, police arrested two men for drink-driving over the Christmas period. One man was arrested and charged with drink-driving after failing a breath test at 1am on January 2.
Officers breathalysed the man after the car he was driving was involved in an accident in Church Street.
The other man, who was 29, was arrested on Western Terrace at 2.30am. He was taken to Camborne Police Station where he was charged with failing to provide a breath test.
