After Saturday's Carlsberg SWL match between Falmouth Town and Saltash United at Bickland Park, a reception was held in the social club for Syd Ridgeon who retired as president of Falmouth Town following the game.

At the reception Syd was presented with a silver salver by John Garwood, the club chairman, and a framed certificate of honour by manager Steve Massey.

Those attending the reception included past and present officers and committee of the club, supporters and the whole first team squad.

Syd has been involved with Falmouth Town for many years and since the early days has seen them play at the Recreation Ground, Union Corner, Ashfield and, of course, Bickland Park.

Until fairly recently Syd could be seen marking out the pitch and cleaning out the dressing rooms after the game on match days. He would also man the pay-box and make the half-time teas before enjoying a pint of mild at the end of the day.

Over the years Syd has held many posts at the club including chairman, vice-chairman and currently president. As time has started to catch up with him he decided it was time to retire from that position and ended his "reign" following Saturday's match.

The club is delighted that Roger Fenner, a past chairman, has agreed to take over the role and everyone at the club is sure that he will join everyone else at Falmouth Town in thanking Syd for all that he has done for the club over such a long time.

Rogersaid: "Syd will be a very hard act to follow."
