Falmouth and Camborne Labour MP Candy Atherton has told her Tory rivals to go back to basics.
A visit to the Conservatives' web-site for the area shows they cannot spell the name of the main town they wish to represent. It certainly will not be found by anyone spelling it correctly!
The website: www.falmouthandcambourne.com consistently spells Camborne with a rogue 'U' throughout.
"Unfortunately I have often come across people misspelling Camborne but I was shocked that the local Conservative Association should be one of the culprits. Clearly their core beliefs do not include accurate spelling or local knowledge and it is probably time they went back to basics again. It is my belief that they should learn how to spell!"
It appears, however, that a Tory headquarters member had made the web-site live before having it checked by local members.
Local Tory member Quenton Peck, from Maenporth, whose name is on the website as being the promoter was astonished when approached by the Packet yesterday.
"I shall ensure it is changed immediately," he said. "I do know how to spell Camborne."
The site was thought to have been set up from London Tory headquarters and a quick glimpse at it last night showed the errors had in fact been corrected.
Ashley Crossley, the prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate for Falmouth and Camborne was aware a web-site was being prepared by Tory head office. He said it had not yet been approved by him or the branch and should not have been live.
"Someone has been very naughty here," he said.
