THERE are celebrations at Redruth School this week with the news that five sixth form students have been offered conditional places at Oxford or Cambridge universities.
Craig Martin, head of the sixth form, thinks it is a record for the school in one year. There are usually one or two offers of Oxbridge places a year, sometimes three of four.
He said: "I'm highly delighted that this group of dedicated students have been offered places at Oxford or Cambridge. They are a hard-working bunch. It's a credit to the students' and teachers' hard work at Redruth School."
Head girl Katy Langley has been offered a conditional place to study chemistry at Oxford. She is studying for A-levels in biology, chemistry, history, maths and physics.
Head boy Tom Harvey, meanwhile, hopes to attend Oxford and study philosophy, politics and economics. He will be sitting for A-levels in chemistry, history, maths and English literature.
Daniel Grigg already has an A-level in biology and hopes to add French, history and Spanish to the list this summer before studying Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Cambridge.
Damian Granlund has been offered a provisional place at Oxford if he's successful with his grades in maths, chemistry, English literature and history.
Jenna Hawkey has a conditional offer to study modern history and English at Oxford. She is taking A-levels in English literature, history and French, with a pass in media studies already under her belt.
