Russian salvage tug Neftegaz-57 (2,723/87) arrived in the bay towing the Bahamas flagged cargo vessel African Sea (15,893/85). Due to the adverse weather conditions the tug and tow remained offshore until permission was given to enter harbour. Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel RFA Fort Victoria (28,821/93) working outside port limits.
Thursday, January 8
British coaster Hoo Swan (794/89) arrived from Newhaven to load stone at Porthoustock for Newhaven. British salvage tug Anglian Princess (2,258/02) sailed from the docks for Mounts Bay. Danish chemical tanker Dagmar Theresa (2,654/01) arrived from Plymouth and berthed alongside the County Wharf to carry out engine repairs.
Friday, January 9
Bahamas tanker Sarpen (59,719/02) came into the bay to land an over carried Milford Haven pilot and then sailed. British P&O ferry Pride of Bilbao (37,583/86), arrived from Portsmouth and entered No. 2 dry-dock to commence her annual dry-docking. Royal Navy destroyer HMS York (4,675/85) was working outside port limits. Dagmar Theresa sailed from the County Wharf for Milford Haven. Neftegaz-57 returned from sea towing the cargo ship African Sea. The tug and her tow were assisted to the Crossroads Buoy by the three harbour tugs. Neftegaz-57 sailed for Mounts Bay. Polish salvage tug Neptunia (1,180/79) came into the bay to collect charts and sailed for St Ives Bay to tow the British coaster Scot Venture (2,594/02) to Cardiff. Antigua coaster Sea Waal (1,843/85), arrived from Cork and anchored in the bay.
Saturday, January 10
Bahamas flagged coaster Sea Falcon (1,475/77) arrived from Sluiskil, Holland and berthed alongside the County Wharf to commence discharging her cargo of fertilizer. She sailed later for Plymouth. Sea Waal berthed at Dean Quarry to load a cargo of stone and sailed for Dagenham. Duke Class frigate HMS Argyll (4,200/91) came into Falmouth Bay to land personnel and sailed for sea. Cypriot coaster Don (3,796/95) anchored in the bay to shelter.
Sunday, January 11
Norwegian offshore supply vessel Strilbas (947/72) arrived from sea and anchored for bunkers. Strilbas sailed and anchored near to Porthoustock. British coastal tanker Activity (1,926/82) arrived from Milford Haven and berthed alongside the Eastern Arm to discharge her cargo. Cypriot cargo vessel Claudia C (2,818/94) arrived from Bilbao and berthed alongside the north of Kings Wharf. She was on passage from Bilbao to Dublin with a cargo of railway carriages. Anglian Princess arrived towing the Latvian coaster Sea Fox (2,219/76), which had broken down 12 miles west of Lands End after suffering an engineroom explosion and fire. The tow was transferred to harbour tugs and the Anglian Princess sailed for the bay to take up station. Dutch frigate HNLMS Willem Van Der Zaan (3,320/91) anchored in the bay overnight to seek shelter. Finnish roll-on, roll-off vessel Mimer (5,873/90) anchored in the bay to seek shelter. Activity sailed from the docks and then anchored in the bay to seek shelter.
Monday, January 12
Activity sailed for Milford Haven. Liberian tanker Rudderman (4,842/94) arrived at the docks to carry out engine repairs. Danish chemical tanker Atlantic Swan (7,285/82) landed an over carried Milford Haven pilot. HNLMS Willem Van Der Zaan sailed for Devonport.
Port busy in bad weather with four vessels
The port went into casualty reception mode when four shipping casualties were handled over a 48-hour period. The typical West African trader Africa Sea finally made it into port under tow of the Russian salvage tug Neftegas 57. The tug and tow were forced to remain at sea in bad weather until it was deemed safe for the ship to enter harbour aided by three harbour tugs. Africa Sea is currently moored to the Cross Roads mooring buoy.
Following in her wake was the coastal container ship Sea Fox which suffered an engineroom explosion 12 miles off Land's End. The Coastguard Emergency Towing Vessel Anglian Princess arrived on scene and managed to connect the tow in heavy seas. Sea Fox was brought to Falmouth for engine repairs.
The coaster Claudia C asked for an alongside berth in view of the bad weather forecast on Sunday. She had railway carriages in her hold.
On Tuesday the coastal tanker Galway Fisher broke down off Land's End and had to be escorted into Falmouth Bay by the Anglian Princess.
