RESIDENTS in the Wilton area of Taunton are seeing red over plans to turn a green space into a temporary car park.
They are protesting against a request by the Taunton Deane Horticultural and Floricultural Society, which organises Taunton Flower Show, to use part of Vivary Park for about 300 cars during this year's event on August 4-5.
After last year's event, some society members complained about having to walk 400 yards to Vivary Park from a parking area at Richard Huish College, so the society has asked Taunton Deane Council if it can use Wilton Lands, opposite the putting green, for parking.
The request has angered residents who want the area retained for families and tourists, especially at a time when the rest of the park is unavailable.
