OVERNIGHT between January 4 and 5, five cars in Atherton Way, Tiverton were damaged by what police believe to be paint stripper.
At 7.30pm on Sunday January 4 a group of youths on bikes were seen riding away from the scene, over the canal bridge towards Wilcombe housing estate.
PC Nick Coffey would like to identify these youths to eliminate them from police enquiries.
The damage to the paint work of the vehicles is thought to estimate about £1,500.
One of the residents of the residential street, reported the incident to police on Monday afternoon, but did not receive a visit from a police officer until Friday.
Police spokesman PC Jon Needham said about the delay: "When the incident was reported it happened overnight, with no witnesses and no suspects, and it was allocated to one of the local beat officers.
"We have to prioritise and nothing needed immediate action."
