Following the news that Plymouth will be getting its own Conference level speedway team for this coming season, it has now emerged that Cornwall will not.

The application for Conference level sppedway in the county was rejected at the League's annual meeting in Rugby on Tuesday (Jan 13), and promoter Ray Purvis said: "The British Speedway Promoters' Association decided against issuing us with a permit because we did not have full planning permission for the site."

He travelled to Rugby for the meeting, hopeful of staging a season of Conference Trophy racing at the track, situated at wartime airfields near Newquay.

"Unfortunately, all the hope I had went out of the window," said Purvis.

"I will now have to consider my next move. It does not mean that I have given up on running speedway in Cornwall."
