FINES up to £2,500 could be slapped on motorists who use their mobile phones while on the move in Taunton Deane from Monday.
It has been illegal to drive while using a hand-held mobile since December 1, but officers have waited until now to enforce the new law.
The Road Policing Unit has stopped drivers and reminded them of the law change since the beginning of January as part of Operation Talk, but from next week anyone caught breaking the new law could receive a fixed penalty fine of £30.
