A Taunton dad had to shell out £43.50 for his son to play a round of golf at Taunton's Vivary Park.
Non-golfer Brian Reynolds, of Galmington Road, wanted to treat his son, Martin, to a game over Christmas while he was down from Newbury, where he is a lawyer.
Brian planned to walk round with Martin, a former pupil at Queen's College, Taunton, simply to keep him company.
"I went in a few days before and booked a time on Boxing Day," said Brian.
"When we turned up to play Martin paid his fee of £12.50 for 18 holes and I was planning to walk round with him. "But they said 'sorry, caddies aren't allowed and neither are spectators,' and told me I'd have to pay the £12.50 fee as well.
