LOCAL rivers were put on flood watch by the Environment Agency on Monday (January 12) although stormy weather was less severe than expected.

While the Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area missed predicted gales, cloudbursts on Monday morning meant rising river levels and difficult driving conditions.

The Upper River Axe was placed on flood watch status, meaning flooding was expected.

Police attended a single vehicle accident at Crewkerne Turning near Tytherleigh on Monday morning.

A car left the road in wet conditions between 9 and 9.30am. No one was injured.

Drivers struggled with floods last Thursday (January 8). For a full round up and photos see the News on Wednesday (January 14).
