THE Environment Agency issued on flood warnings on local rivers today (Monday) although stormy weather was less severe than predicted.
While the Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area missed predicted gales, cloudbursts this morning meant rising river levels and difficult driving conditions.
The River Isle from Chard Reservoir to Hambridge was moved to flood warning status by the Environment Agency shortly after 10am, meaning flooding was likely to affect homes, businesses or main roads.
At the same time the Upper River Axe was placed on flood watch, meaning flooding of low lying areas was expected.
Police attended a single vehicle accident at Crewkerne Turning near Tytherleigh.
A car left the road in wet conditions between 9 and 9.30am. No one was injured.
The flood warnings followed disruption across the area last Thursday caused by high winds and heavy rain.
