Taunton could be in for a year of bad luck with Christmas decorations still hanging in the town's streets well after Twelfth Night.

Most residents take down their displays in time to avoid being jinxed for the New Year but it seems Taunton's remaining decorations will not be taken down for some time.

An army of workmen from Taunton Deane DLO, the services arm of Taunton Deane Council, normally removes the decorations during Sundays.

But Sunday trading has expanded in the town centre and bosses say Taunton is too busy with shoppers and traffic to take the decorations down.

A Taunton Deane spokes-person said: "The decorations have to be put up well in advance before Christmas - around October time - and they take almost as long to come back down.

"With Sunday being our biggest trading day it's difficult to get all the decorations down before the Twelfth Night.

"The decorations will be taken down before the end of January."

Only time will tell if the last few decorations will bring a tide of bad luck to the town!
