THE Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area bore the brunt of stormy weather that tore across the west country on Thursday morning (January 9), causing treacherous driving conditions.
Up to 45mm of rain fell in parts of East Devon and winds touched 75mph at times, according to BBC weather forecaster David Braine.
Low lying fields and roads around the Rivers Axe and Isle were flooded as people tried to get to work later in the morning.
Emergency services answered a series of call to fallen trees and motorists caught out by the conditions. Two vehicles got stuck in floods near Donyatt and a third near Crewkerne.
Forecasters have warned there's more to come. The Met Office today (Friday) issued a severe weather warning saying there was a 60-70 per cent of disruption locally from severe gales and heavy rain between Sunday and Wednesday.
The weather is expected to be at its worst on Monday (January 12).
