Wellington is set to get another takeaway.
Planning applications have been submitted for the conversion of the former Cat's Whiskers premises, 18 South Street.
A pizza takeaway is proposed for the shop, which has been empty for some months.
Asked for their comments on the applications, Wellington Town Councillors expressed concern that another takeaway could be going into the area.
Opening hours were a particular source of concern and the current statutory closing time is midnight.
Cllr Ross Henley said any new premises should be kept to the midnight limit and the regulations enforced.
Concerned about potential litter generated by the new food outlet, Cllr Andrew Govier asked: "Is there any way we can ask for them to provide additional bins?"
Cllr Gill added the Deane's ongoing 'Crisp and Clean' campaign, which is supported by the Somerset County Gazette, should see fast food retailers held to account.
They will be forced to comply with regulations to provide refuse facilities for their customers.
Cllr Govier joked: "What we need to do is work out how long it takes people to eat a pizza and put the litter bins along the road, there."
The planning applications include change of use from shop to takeaway, erection of a dormer window, repairs to the shop front, internal and external alterations and an illuminated sign.
Councillors agreed to endorse the plans, which will be decided by the Deane's planners, subject to advisory notes that the opening hours should be restricted to a midnight close and the takeaway is asked to provide litter bins.
