WEST Buckland-based Arctic explorer Dom Mee is displaying artefacts found on his latest expedition for the last time in the UK.
During his Arctic Quest 1831 adventure, the Royal Marine reservist navigated his 17ft Kayak through the Northwest Passage, retracing the route of 19th Century explorer Sir John Ross.
He returned from the Arctic brandishing artefacts which have been verified by independent experts as pieces of Ross's ship, the "Victory".
The vessel vanished beneath the ice having been abandoned by Ross and his crew, at the end of a four-year struggle trapped in the ice, over 170 years ago.
The artefacts have been deemed of such importance that the Nanavut Government have requested they be returned to Canada as National Treasures after the London International Boat Show, which began yesterday (Thursday).
As a result, this will be the last opportunity to view the pieces before their return to the Nanavut region.
The show is at the Excel Exhibition Centre in London until January 18 and Dom Mee will be part of the Royal Navy stand for its duration.
