WELLINGTON police Sgt Richard Caburn carried a knee injury to finish sixth in Boxing Day's Stoke Stampede.
The annual 10km race attracted 170 entries and raised over £1,000 for local charities.
Sgt Caburn finished less than two-and-a-half minutes behind the winner, Will Joyce, of Taunton Athletics Club, completing the race in 36.5 minutes.
"I wasn't sure my leg would hold the whole way round," the keen runner told the Somerset County Gazette.
But, in the end, his time was not far short of the 35 minutes, which gained him third place in last year's stampede.
