Redruth A XV scored two quick tries, one conversion and a penalty to lead 15 points to nil within ten minutes of the start of this friendly encounter at the King George V playing fields.
The home side needed to dig deep to avoid a heavy defeat and during the remainder of the half Helston's defence held as the forwards won enough ball to take the game to Redruth.
Helston produced a number of crash ball runs by inside centre Tah, but were unable to prevent Redruth cleaning up on a loose ball to score their third try.
Helston did not give up and with the referee playing advantage from a Redruth knock on, winger Colin Taylor sprinted to the Redruth line for a well deserved try.
At half-time Redruth 2nds led by 20 points to five.
In the second half both teams played well in difficult weather conditions, but Redruth scored twice in the last ten minutes to win by 30 points to 5 points
Try scorers for Redruth were Victor Norman, Jan Kirk, Jason Pengelly, Mark Creedon and Tell Streckett. Pengelly kicked the single conversion and penalty. Helston tryscorer was Colin Taylor.
Helston are at home to Callington in a Cornwall League Two fixture, on Saturday.
