TRURO 13pts Clevedon 18pts
Truro were seeking their fifth victory against promotion-chasing Clevedon in South West One, but crashed to another defeat at St Clements Hill, their eighth league reverse to date this season
Clevedon, who are in second place with 10 wins, are just below Reading.
Conditions were far from good and not surprisingly both teams kept the ball within their packs until they were confident of attacking from good positions.
Nick Yelland, a tower of strength as skipper, led his team from the front, and a recent signing from Redruth, Nick Edyvean, deserved the cheers following a good run that brought him a try.
Keeping up the pressure player/coach Steve Larkins kicked a penalty award.
Young, new second row players Richard Tucker and Mark Davey were very much in the action as was hooker Jason Sobey.
Truro put over two penalty chances to extend their lead, but Clevedon, a big robust team, played with total commitment and in fly-half Tom O'Rourke they had a good general. He scored the first try soon followed by a good effort from speedy winger Chris Cates.
Versatile number 15 Mike Lowis kicked a penalty award to tie the scores at 13-13.
Maintaining the pressure with the advantage of the elements as tension mounted, Clevedon's speed merchant, Cates, following good play from Owen Biggins and James Shapland, went over for the winning try after a wing run to secure two very valuable league points.
Truro play at Chinor on Saturday. The host club are two places above the city side.
Scorers - Truro - try: Edyvean, pens: Larkins 2; con: Larkins.
Clevedon - tries: Cates 2 and O'Rourke; pen: Lowis.
