TRURO Rugby Club might be finding life difficult in South West League One this season, but further down the club tree there has been plenty to celebrate.
The cause of the celebrations is that two of the club's youngsters, Jovin Harper (wing forward) and Owen Hambly (hooker), have been selected for the 28-man England Under18 Clubs squad. To add to the success is the news that Joe McGovern (prop) has been chosen as a reserve.
To get three youngsters from Cornwall involved in the England set-up is terrific, but for all three to come from one club is nothing short of remarkable, something the club has every right to be proud of.
Their selection came as a result of the England Under18 Clubs Divisional Championship which took place at Castlecroft over last weekend and which was won for the first time by the South West.
Seven players from Cornwall, including the three Truro players, represented the Southwest. The other players were Matthew Trewin (fullback), Bude RFC; Ashley Rescorla (wing), Launceston and Wadebridge Camels; Marc Britton (scrum half), Redruth RFC; Jamie Hoskin (second row), Penryn RFC.
Following the championship the England Under 18's Clubs squad was selected and seven players from the Southwest team were selected.
