ONE of the most popular events in the mortorsport calendar, the Pendennis Motor Club Double Diamond Trophy Trial, was staged at Perranarworthal on Sunday. The event also included the first round of the 2004 Cornish Trials Championship.

Shane Williams continued his fine form from the end of last season to score a 17 mark victory over Gareth Andrew who in turn was 10 marks ahead of third placed George Edyvean whose last lap recovery pushed previous double winner, Shaun Martin down to fourth place.

Williams was in control from the start and excelled on the greasy climbs and slippery tree roots with laps of 2-3-2 never being challenged by Andrew 12-4-8.

Phil Atkins' return to form snatched victory in the non experts class with a decreasing lap score of 30-20-13 against Shaun Philp's deteriorating laps of 18-20-28.

On the B route, Chris Pascoe had a comfortable class win as did Alex Bland in the Schoolboy B's, leaving last year's champion Ian Martin's final lap of eight just good enough to push Ross Hancock into third place after Hancock's dismal last lap of 17.

With the first five riders covered by ten marks in the novice men's class on C route, it was Richard Bland who kept his cool just long enough to win the premier and making it a family double.

Once again the immaculate Ossa of Richard Parkyn forged ahead on lap one and left the rest to "catch me if you can" for the remaining laps in the T/shocks.

The D course once again had a change of winner with Sam Jeffery trailing after the first lap, but by putting in two consistent laps pushed previous Pendennis winner Brad Madderver into the runners-up spot.
