HAYLE 16pts
IVYBRIDGE 16pts
Hayle had to be content with a 16-16 draw at home to Ivybridge, but retain second place with the visitors in a mid table position.
Hayle's pitch, in dreadful conditions, was quite good and the "Lions" played with real purpose, thanks to a outstanding game from lock forward Damien Cook whose form will have been noticed by county selectors.
Prolific stalwart kicker Paul Lello gave yet another sterling showing with 11 points from goal kicks.
After an early penalty success by Lello, the same player converted a try by Danny Clackworthy after a good forward surge.
Ace kicker Spencer Owen, for the visiting side, was on target with two penalty chances. However, as the game progressed Lello increased the home score.
Forward drives were vital to Hayle, but lack of finish cost points.
From an interception winger Tom Kitchenham ran fully 80 metres for a try that was most certainly against the run of play.
Hayle's stalwarts responded with the Jenkin brothers involved in a fine team showing that eventually secured a well deserved league point.
Matt Nicholas, too, played his part well for the Lions who were ahead 16-13 with the minutes running down, but a late very accurate penalty from Owen secured a draw as the home side were caught offside in midfield.
Scorers - Hayle - try: Clackworthy; pens: Lello 3; con: Lello. Ivybridge - try: Kitchenham; pens: Owen 3; con: Owen.
