Bad weather forced the stricken ro/ro vessel African Sea 15,893 grt, to remain offshore yesterday when she arrived in tow of the Russian salvage tug Neftegas 57. The harbour master and pilots held a meeting to discuss the ship's arrival and decided that the wind was too strong to bring the disabled ship into port. The tug and tow went south of the port to await better conditions for entering port.
The fully laden African Sea suffered an engine failure 30 miles south south east of Portland and requested a contract tow to port. The 173 metre long ship will moor to the Cross Roads mooring buoy for repairs.
