Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson has urged the fans who watched the Glovers in action against Liverpool last weekend in the FA Cup, to descend on Huish Park again for the club's vital Nationwide League Division Three clash with Rochdale this Saturday (writes Steve Sowden).
Yeovil is no different to any other club in the lower reaches of the Football League which see attendances rocket for the big games while they stay at normal size for 'ordinary' games.
But there are no 'ordinary' games for Yeovil Town in this their very first season in the Football League and Johnson hopes the supporters will continue to back the club in their thousands.
"I always commend those fans who do attend games," he said. "But there might well have been hundreds and thousands of people who turned up last Sunday just to watch Liverpool -- but that would have happened at any club at our level.
"But I think we put on a good enough show against Liverpool to tempt some of those supporters back again.
"It was a real Carnival atmosphere here last weekend and I'd like to see that again."
Johnson said that January was a very important month for the club in terms of their league fortunes.
Following Saturday's match with Rochdale, they then make the long haul north to basement side Carlisle United on January 17 before facing successive Saturday home matches against Leyton Orient and Macclesfield -- two teams who have beaten the Glovers already this season.
"January is going to be a big month for us and I hope that as many people as possible will attend the games to back us," said Johnson. "The support is really appreciated by the players."
The gaffer, meanwhile, did not say how much, if any at all, of the approximate £500,000 generated by the FA Cup run he would be given to spend on new playing personnel.
"I don't know until I ask the board," he said. "And I only ask them when I've identified a player I want and we as a club could afford."
Johnson confirmed that he had made an inquiry to Division One side Stoke City about striker Chris Iwelumo. "It was only an inquiry and there are other Division One clubs interested who we wouldn't be able to match financially," he said.
"But for every one player you hear about me interested in, there are another 50 you don't hear about."
He also confirmed that Yeovil striker Kevin Gall had signed a new extended contract to keep him at Huish Park until the end of next season -- squashing earlier rumours that the forward was being touted by Ipswich Town.
But Johnson said: "I like to keep contract talks in-house."
