LOCAL lad Rob Boardman has covered himself, and the King Alfred Amateur Boxing Club, in glory by winning a national title - while suffering from flu!

The 16-year-old from Burnham-on-Sea became champion in the 75-81-kilogram, under 17-age group at the National Association of Clubs for Young People ABA Championships in Liverpool just before Christmas.

Boardman, a pupil at King Alfred School, Highbridge, kept up his record of having stopped his opponent in every round of the championships when he demolished England international Ian Askew within a minute in the final.
