THE DEPARTMENT in charge of keeping Bridgwater's council houses up to scratch has been described as "poor" by Audit Commission inspectors.
A draft report made by a best value team inspecting the housing department strongly criticises Sedgemoor District Council for its performance when it comes to the maintenance and repair of its council homes.
The report is due to be brought before the next full council meeting by housing and property portfolio holder, Cllr Jane Moreton.
