HALF the signs advertising new homes in Wellington's Tonedale are set to be taken down.
Barratt Homes have already put up large advertising boards at six locations leading from the M5 to the development and submitted a retrospective planning application to Taunton Deane Council planners.
Wellington planning officer John Hamer initially judged most of the signs to be "unnecessary and unacceptable" but backtracked slightly at the Town Council's meeting on Monday.
Mr Hamer said the Tonedale area was not well signposted.
"On reflection it seems reasonable for any driver heading into Wellington from the motorway to have signs," he said, recommending a half-and-half approach.
Councillors voted to recommend three of the six signs are retained for no longer than two years.
