NEAR perfect running conditions complemented a record year for the annual Stoke Stampede on Boxing Day.
Around £1,000 was raised from the entry fees of the 172 runners - up bu about £150 on last year.
The 10km course around Stoke St Gregory started at the Rose and Crown pub and finished in the square, before prize-giving in the Royal Oak.
Will Joyce, of Taunton Athletics Club, trimphed in the men's competition for the second year running, taking two seconds longer this year with a time of 34 minutes 4 seconds.
In the women's competition, Liza Hazell of Bristol Athletics Club scooped first place with a time of 36 minutes 34 seconds.
The funds raised will contribute to the running of the village playing field and pavilion.
A full list of finishing positions and pictures of some of the competitors can be seen in this week's Somerset County Gazette.
