A 15-year-old boy needed 40 stitches after a street robbery in Plymouth, police said.
The teenager, from Plympton, suffered four knife wounds in the shoulder and cheek when he was attacked by two men in Mounth Gould Road just after midnight on New Year's Day.
A gold chain he was wearing was stolen.
A Devon and Cornwall police spokesman appealed for information about the two robbers, who were around 17 or 18 years old.
