HELSTON and District Rifle Club held its annual Christmas dinner and prizegiving at the Queen's Arms, Breage, with 20 members and friends enjoying a very festive atmosphere.

The chairman, Mr Ray Winchcombe presented cups and medals. Helston A team won the City of Truro cup and five gold medals - Allan McLaren Terry Curnow, Mark Rowe, Jane Briggs and John Hall. Equalling the success of the A team the B team won their shield competition and five gold medals - Jackie Hibbitt, Bonar Law, George Orchard, Bryan Baker and Chris Harvey.

NSRA/Eley reached a high standard in the second stage, medals for Jackie Hibbitt and Mark Rowe. Terry Curnow and Mark Rowe received badges as members of the winning Inter County Rifle League team of 20.

At a club shoot, 25yds/25m medals were awarded to Terry Curnow, Jackie Hibbitt, Chris Harvey, Kieron Smith and one of their juniors who has only recently taken up the sport, Daryl Scales. The winner of D class, James Winchcombe, received the cup.

NSRA Winter League's best average medal was Mark Rowe who was also the highest Cornwall shooter in the county placed 69th out of 890 shooters.

Top lady and top gent shields, awarded to the shooter who has the highest combined scores of the Cornwall Target Shooting Association Winter League and the National Smallbore Rifle Association Winter League 2002/2003. The top lady, Mrs Jackie Hibbitt and the top gent, Mr Mark Rowe.

After the conclusion of the presentation of cups and medals, the vice president, Mr Allan McLaren, presented a bottle of champagne and a bouquet to one of the club's long serving members, Mr and Mrs Ted Bone on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary.
