HELSTON XV 17pts EXILES xv 0pts
THE traditional Boxing Day encounter between Helston and an Exiles XV drew a healthy crowd to the King George V Playing Field where, not surprisingly, the select XV went down by 17 points to nil in a well-contested fixture.
Helston dominated the first 20 minutes of play and scored the opening try through winger Colin Taylor.
The extra two points for the conversion were added by Kevin Mitchell.
The Helston Exiles, playing an open game, attacked the Helston line but there was no way through the solid and well organised Helston defence, Helston forwards won turnover ball and quick passing to centre Dan Lockey saw him sprint from inside the Helston 22 to score the try.
In the second half the teams played entertaining rugby, both running all the penalty awards and in the last ten minutes the Exiles attacked the Helston line continuously but could find no way through.
Another turnover and a kick ended with scrum half Matt Jilbert in hotpursuit to score the final try.
Referee Denis Wearn, Helston RFC president.
