THE Royal Mail seems to have forgotten that it is the season of good will.
On Monday last week the postman knocked at the door and showed me an envelope which clearly contained a Christmas card. It lacked a stamp and I was told that if I wished to receive it there would be a £1.20 "handling charge". I keep little cash in the house but managed to find the required amount.
The card turned out to be from an elderly aunt who had obviously posted it unstamped in error.
The next day my mail included a letter clearly addressed to someone else. I marked it for redirection and made a special journey to the post box a quarter of a mile away. Perhaps Royal Mail would like to send me £1.20 as "handling charge"?
