MOTORISTS in Bath were today warned to expect major hold-ups throughout January and February due to work on a city-centre road.
Highways bosses at Bath and North East Somerset Council are advising drivers to think of alternative means of transport when work begins on Churchill Bridge gyratory on Monday.
Although the first two weeks of work will be undertaken outside office hours, sections of the gyratory will be closed at weekends and overnight during the next two months.
To minimise disruption the council is asking people to take public transport or walk to work where possible.
Highways network manager Peter Brook said: ''We need people to help us keep the traffic flowing. They can do this by thinking carefully about how they travel into the city can they walk, catch a bus or share a lift?''
The resurfacing work to the gyratory is part of a larger project to reconstruct the A367 from the Red Lion roundabout to Churchill Bridge.
