BRIDGE A have increased their lead at the top of the West Cornwall Table Tennis League Premier Division to ten points over their nearest rivals, St Austell A. This follows the visit of Bridge to St Austell to play the B Team.
Gary Hall won two games to give Bridge something to talk about on the way home. The match finished 2-8.
St Austell A ran out 7-3 winners over Redruth A. Austin Chapman was the thorn in St Austell's side, winning two and only losing to Adrian Noott in the fifth end. William Carnel beat Derek Lucas for the other of Redruth's points. Four points now separate a clutch of three teams, all hoping for the golden egg.
In the First Division, two People's Palace teams are leading the pack. People's Palace C, in second place, got a 6-4 result over Falmouth Docks C. The best performance of the night was by Docks' Jeremy Hartley, who lost to Neville Thomas in four ends but beat Paul Mallen and Brian Lawrence. Jeremy played in the winning doubles pair with Kevin Fudge who also won.
Redruth D had a good draw against high flying Mylor Bridge B in the Second Division. Karim Ali and Simon Hoskin won two each and the doubles. The result puts Mylor in second spot, one point ahead of Falmouth Docks D, who, in turn are one point ahead of Bridge C, all on equal games.
Harris Mill D, Andrew Tyson, Mona Dawe and Peter Ninnes gained a 6-4 win over St Austell D, the Bowler family. Andrew and Peter won a thrilling doubles over Tim and Dean in five ends after losing the first two.
In the Third Division, there was no port left in the bottle when Mylor Bridge D played Mylor Bridge C. The C team sailed away to a 6-4 success. Ken Norcross tied all his opponents up, including his son Mark, to gain a hat-trick. John Carthy and Cordelia Folland each won one game, and the two from mark, gave the four points for the D team.
