CORNISH rugby fans will be delighted with the news that former Redruth player Phil Vickery and his colleague Trevor Woodman both receive MBEs in the New Year's Honours list, published yesterday.
Both sportsmen were members of the England rugby team which brought back the world cup from Australia prior to Christmas and who have received huge acclaim ever since.
Their boss, the England coach Clive Woodward, receives a knighthood.
There are a number of Cornish men and women in the honours list, among them Stuart Brian Smith, of Camborne, who receives the OBE for services to Industrial Archaeology.
Mr Smith is a staunch supporter and member of the Trevithick Trust.
He is a former chief executive of the trust and now acts as development consultant to the group, working on the Cornish mining bid for World Heritage site status.
David Richard Hopkins. chairman of the British Air Transport Association, who comes from St Mawgan, receives the OBE for services to the civil aviation in- dustry.
Pat Hollands, from Wall, near Gwinnear receives an MBE for services to Badminton in Cornwall.
Meinwen Marsh, chief executive of the Cornwall Mobility Centre, Truro, receives an MBE for services to disabled people in Cornwall.
There's an MBE, too, for David Geeves, from St Austell, for services to the Royal Mail and the Countryside Agency in the South West.
Another MBE goes to Susanne Gertrude Helene Thompson, of Helston, for services to lacemaking.
An MBE goes to Andrew Stuart Bales, unit leader of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme at Newquay Tretheras School, for services to young people.
And another MBE is heading to Newquay, to Jean Littlefield, for services to charities.
Culdrose personnel also feature in the list. Lt (now Lt Cdr) David Noon and WO (Aircraft Handler) Malcolm John Shaw receive the MBE.
