Firefighters from RNAS Culdrose recently donated more than £1,700 to the neonatal unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
The money was raised during Children in Need week, when the Culdrose fire section cut up a car in the car park at Tesco, Helston.
Half the money raised went direct to Children in Need, and the other half to the Treliske unit.
One of the fire crew - Petty Officer Darren Besford - is uncle to 19-week-old Oliver Penrose, who needed care at the neonatal unit.
Culdrose families regularly make use of the hospital's Princess Alexandra Maternity Wing and personnel felt they wanted the unit to benefit from their fundraising.
Unit administrator Cate Chen, along with staff nurses Pippa Wills and Aly Osborne, were on hand to receive the cheque when the fire crew arrived at the hospital.
