A coffee morning held by residents at The Clies sheltered housing complex in Helston has raised £150 for the occupational therapy unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

The main source of fundraising during the morning was a raffle featuring prizes including a cot made by Clies scheme manager Cynthia Holman while attending the unit.

Staff at the unit are planning to put the donation towards "e-link" upper limb exercise equipment, which is an interactive, computerised system providing motivation and visual feedback.

The equipment not only addresses the exercise element of assessment and treatment, but also the perceptual and cognitive abilities of stroke and head injury patients.

It will also benefit other patients, including those with orthopaedic problems and amputees.

The unit is hoping to raise a total of £7,000 for the equipment and staff have thanked everyone at The Clies for their generous contribution.
