POLICE in Crewkerne are appealing for witnesses and information after a woman was assaulted in the town.
At around 4pm on April 18 the 51-year-old local woman was walking in the Happy Valley Playing Field area of Crewkerne when she became aware of three or four teenage youths on a nearby footpath close to Park View.
The youths then carried out an unprovoked attack on the woman causing a large cut to the rear of her head and bruising to her face and upper body.
An ambulance was called to the scene and the woman required treatment for her injuries at Yeovil District Hospital before being discharged home.
The offenders are described as aged 15 to 17 years. The group were wearing baseball caps, were on bicycles. One of the offenders is described as wearing light coloured shorts and and a T-shirt.
Police would like to speak to anybody who may have witnessed the attack or may know the group of youths involved.
