MARAZION 5 TRURO CITY 3
MARAZION, already doomed to seek re-election to the Jolly's Combination League, pulled off the result of the day when they defeated Truro City 5-3.
City would have been confident of taking all three points from this game, but a succession of errors handed several goals on a plate to their hosts who were not about to pass them up in what was their final game of the season.
City never really got to grips with a game that Marazion were quite evidently keen to do well in.
With a strong wind behind them, City did not make sufficient use of the elements in the opening 45 minutes as Marazion worked hard to contain City.
The home side shook the visitors eight minutes before the break when Chris Phillips, with space and tme to clear, was dispossessed and as goalkeeper Bill Hollands came out and then decide to back-pedal, Wayne House seized his opportunity to lob the ball into the net.
City created a couple of early chances in the second half with Adam Barnicoat and Kayne Trevaskis both going close with headers, but Marazion snatched a second goal against the run of play when they broke away to score through Gary Barker.
City were their own worst enemies and handed Marazion a third goal when Laselle Simon robbed David Rogers and gave Hollands no chance.
City pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute when Luke Wort got put in behind the home defence where his shot hit post only for Matt Salmon to follow up and knock in the rebound.
Nine minutes from time Marazion extended their lead when Steve Forbes scored, but five minutes later City hit back when Tommy Osborne got down the flank and crossed for Matt Baxter to head in.
Before City had time to regroup Marazion struck with a fifth goal when another City defender, Richard Ivers, lost possession and allowed Barker to snap up his second goal before Wort notched an individual goal to make the score a little more respectable.
