Grampound Road's season got off to a soggy start at Menheniot on Saturday. The game was abandoned without a ball being bowled with both clubs taking sx points each.
There was better news on Sunday though when the "Road" visited neighbours Truro in the first Round of the National Club Championship. In a game that was played to a finish in damp conditions, Grampound Road won by three wickets with 11 balls to spare.
Having been put in Truro and Cornwall opener Neil Stoddard continued his good early season form. He anchored the home innings to carry his bat for 95. Jon Kent with 26 helped put on 59 for the first wicket. Of the rest only Tom Sharp and Jamie Bridger reached double figures.
Grampound Road passed the 100 mark for the loss of only two wickets.
After losing Adam Brenton for nine, Martin Pearce with 34 and Simon James with 39 batted soundly. Jon Kent took the first three wickets to fall and a mid- order collapse put Truro back into the game. However, Dave Wilton (35no) and Tony Moran (31no) added an unbroken 54 to see their side home.
Kent took 4 for 37 off 9 overs.
