Falmouth were indebted to skipper Sean Hooper and youngster Jacob Stephens as the pair shared an unbeaten 87 run partnership to successfully chase down Callington's modest total of 189 in the rain on Saturday.

Earlier the home side had won the toss and unsurprisingly elected to bat and got off to a solid start, putting on 58 for the first wicket before Stephens trapped Tony Farrant LBW for 16. Falmouth then turned to the spin of David Neville and Greg Stephens as the pair bowled the next 28 overs in tandem, keeping the home side under pressure for the majority of that time. Neville bowled particularly well, picking up four wickets during his spell of 16 overs, the most spectacular being that of Simon Fitze who smashed the ball into Adrian Nootts' knee fielding a short leg - fortunately for Falmouth the ball then rebounded 15 yards to Sean Hooper on the off side who claimed a simple catch. Neville also picked up the important wicket of Dominic Farris caught and bowled after the opener had made a more than useful 61.

Falmouth then returned to the seam bowling of Brayden Hill and Stefan Churcher to wrap up the Callington innings in the last over, Churcher picking up two wickets and Hill three including that of top scorer Peter Tancock who had made 65.

The home side's total of 188 never looked likely to be enough, however Falmouth made really hard work of it, losing wickets early to Jim Shorten, who removed both openers with the score at 24. Brayden Hill put them back on track with a well-made 34 before he became the first of two lbw decisions to go Chris Kitts' way. With wickets continuing to fall Falmouth needed to find a partnership to get them over the line, and they did just that when Jacob Stephens joined skipper Sean Hooper to win the game. The left-hander never looked troubled on his way to 28 not out in support of Hooper's fine innings of 61 not out, finishing the match just in time as the rain threatened to deny them a most welcome victory.
