THREE Bridgwater heroes who braved treacherous conditions to save a teenager's life will receive a top royal award for their gallant acts.
Glastonbury youngster Nathan Croker had become stranded in icy water up to his neck on Steart Beach in March when three passers-by leapt in to rescue him.
Mervyn Baker, Colin Brewer and Stephen Crago waded through near-freezing water and unforgiving mud to tie a lifeline round the 16-year-old's body and drag him to the shore.
And this week it was revealed that all three are to receive Royal Humane Society testimonials personally signed by the society's president, Princess Alexandra, in recognition of their selfless act.
