A developer who was prepared to make a £100,000 pledge to provide a cinema in Falmouth, in return for permission to build luxury waterfront flats, has been given the go ahead - with no strings attached.
Carrick district council has given conditional approval to allow 14 residential units to be built on land at the prime Falmouth maritime site -known as block A - without the requirement of a cinema also being built nearby on a site known as Block D.
The decision means residential units can be built by developers, New Cornwall Developments Ltd, without the company being forced to complete the cinema as part of the deal.
Town mayor Roger Bonney, who is also on the planning committee at Carrick council, said he was angry and disappointed with the decision.
